Subterranean
Since 1994, Subterranean has been a cornerstone of the Wicker Park live music and nightlife scene. Built in the 1890s, our historic building has lived many lives, previously housing a brothel, a bathhouse, and a wire room for gambling in the prohibition era. Owner Robert Gomez has worked hard to preserve the original features of the space that have been in place since the building’s creation and give Subterranean it’s one-of-a-kind character, including the iconic Tiffany and brass chandelier that hangs above the dance floor.
The storied Subterranean stage has played host to many notable acts including Dinosaur Jr, Lizzo, Lil Peep, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, Pussy Riot, Built To Spill, Brand New, BBNG, Lee Scratch Perry, Alabama Shakes, Durand Jones & The Indications, Fall Out Boy, and is home to some of Chicago’s longest running residencies; Thursday night’s Reggae Gold and the longest-running hip-hop open mic in the nation, the 606 Open Mic (Tuesdays).
