Madlener House
4 West Burton Place
From the Archbishop's Residence, walk west on North Boulevard to State Parkway (first street west of Astor). Continue walking south on State until you reach Burton Place.
Madlener House, situated on the northwest corner of State and Burton, was built in 1902 by Richard Schmidt. Designed as a private residence for Albert Fridolin Madlener, a German-American brewery owner, and his wife. The building is designated a National Historic Landmark, and blends Art Deco and Prairie-style architecture.
Since 1963, the building has been home to the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts. Like Charnley-Persky house, this building is open to public. The foundation's bookstore is generally open Wednesdays through Saturdays. The building is also open during their periodic exhibitions.
