As you walk west along the river, you will see the two corncob-like 65-story residential structures called Marina City. Designed by architects Bertrand Goldberg Associates, Marina City was incredibly innovative when completed in 1964. Truly a city within a city, it had 896 apartments (now condos), an office building (now a hotel), a theater (now the House of Blues), and a working marina at river level. Marina City achieved landmark status in 2015.

Bertrand Goldberg was a student of modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In Marina City, Goldberg blended modernist themes with elements in nature, comparing the wedge-shaped apartments in the residential towers to petals on a sunflower.

If you're looking for lunch or dinner plans, you're near an excellent dining destination. Located on this side of the river, directly across from Marina City, is Catch 35 (at 35 W. Wacker). Catch 35 offers outstanding steak and seafood, with live jazz on select evenings.
