Chicago Riverwalk (North Bank)
North Bank of Chicago River
If you’re up for a short stroll off Michigan Avenue, head southeast across the plaza back towards the Apple Store and Chicago River. Take any set of stairs down to river level and you’ll get a great boats-eye view of the city.
While the main Chicago Riverwalk is located across the river on the south bank (stretching from Lake Michigan to Lake Street), this section of the north bank is a bit more relaxed. In the summer, you'll see tour boats, kayaks and privately owned craft moving up and down the river.
If you're interested in hopping on a boat, Shoreline Sightseeing has a dock here. You can take an Architecture River Tour from this location, or catch a water taxi to Willis Tower or Navy Pier.
A little farther to the east (near the University of Chicago's downtown campus) you'll find Odyssey Chicago River. This European-inspired vessel is the only boat on the river where you can have brunch, lunch, dinner or drinks while taking in Chicago's famous architecture!
As you walk east past the University of Chicago’s downtown campus and the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, you will come to Centennial Fountain and Arc. Except in the winter when the fountain is shut-down, the fountain shoots an arc of water across the river every thirty minutes on the hour and half-hour.
If you're looking to take a break, Lizzie McNeill's Irish Pub has great comfort food, drink and an outstanding warm-weather patio overlooking the Chicago River.
Take your time along the river walk. When you’re done, re-trace your steps back to Michigan Avenue.
