Nichols Bridgeway
Millennium Park
Audio Tour
From Lurie Garden, walk back to the Great Lawn. Near the southwest edge of the lawn you'll see the entrance to The Nichols Bridgeway.
Designed by famed architect Renzo Piano -- who also designed the Art Institute's Modern Wing -- Nichols Bridgeway is a 620 foot pedestrian bridge which joins Millennium Park to the Art Institute of Chicago's Modern Wing. The bridge rises 60 feet, crossing above Monroe Street, to the Modern Wing's third floor entrance, as well as to the Bluhm Family Terrace. The outdoor 3,400 square foot Bluhm Family Terrace is free to enter and houses rotating art installations.
While not nearly as interesting as Millennium Park's BP Bridge (stop #5), the walk up Nichols Bridge offers great views of the park and the city skyline.
