The area up the stairs was originally called Crystal Gardens -- home to a beautiful one-acre, free to the public, indoor palm court featuring a six-story glass atrium, 80+ full-size palm trees, and a variety of seasonal flowers and plants.
As you can see, it's now home to Navy Pier's latest attraction: Illuminarium. Illuminarium uses projected images, sound, scents and vibrations to give visitors the sense they are in different places, like Africa or outer space.
Illuminarium requires paid admission, and is tentatively scheduled to open in late June 2024.
