Milwaukee County War Memorial Center
750 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr.
The War Memorial Center was completed in 1957 and designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen to create a new home for two previously separate art collections and a veterans’ memorial. The modernist building is shaped like a floating cross, with wings cantilevered from a central base. Saarinen’s innovative design won praise for its dramatic use of space. Time magazine called it “one of the country’s finest examples of modern architecture put to work for civic purposes”.
The Milwaukee County War Memorial Center honors the legacy of Wisconsin’s men and women who patriotically served in the U.S. armed forces during both war and peacetime. As one of Milwaukee’s prized landmarks, the War Memorial Center is an unforgettable space with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan.
