Historic Printers Alley is located downtown between Third and Fourth Avenues, running from Union Street to Commerce Street. This famous nightclub and entertainmetn district dates back to the 1940s.

In the early 1900s, this area was home to thirteen publishers and ten printers, making it the center of Nashville’s printing industry. Nashville’s two largest newspapers, The Tennessean and the Nashville Banner, also had their offices here. The street contained hotels, restaurants and saloons, with many becoming speakeasies during Prohibition.

During the 1940s, nightclubs began to open and the alley became a showcase for the talents of performers such as Boots Randolph, Chet Atkins, Waylon Jennings, Dottie West, The Supremes, Hank Williams, Barbara Mandrell and Jimi Hendrix.

Today the area continues to be a vibrant nightlife and entertainment district with numerous bars and live music venues.
