GETTING AROUND ST. LOUIS
Given that many of St. Louis' most popular visitor destinations, sights and neighborhoods are spread over a relatively wide area, the best way to get around St. Louis is by car -- either drive yourself, ride share (e.g., Uber or Lyft) or take a taxi.
Depending on your destination, the MetroLink light rail system could be a nice alternative, as it stops near several popular destinations including The Loop, Forest Park, Union Station, Busch Stadium and the Gateway Arch. It has two lines, the Red Line and the Blue Line. The Red Line also serves Lambert International Airport Terminals 1 & 2.
St. Louis also has a bus system, called MetroBus, but it is a bit slower and less convenient to use. Tap here for more information, maps and fares for the St. Louis Metro Transit (MetroLink and MetroBus) public transportation system.
The main downtown area is very walkable, with the Old Capitol, Riverboat excursions, Busch Stadium, Ballpark Village, the National Blues Museum, America's Center Convention Complex and Laclede's Landing all located within approximately 0.5 miles of Gateway Arch National Park.
Other destinations are a bit further. Union Station (a popular dining and nightlife destination and home to the Saint Louis Aquarium) is approximately 1.4 miles from Gateway Arch, the Soulard neighborhood and the Budweiser Brewery Experience are approximately 2.5 miles from the Arch, while Forest Park (home to the Saint Louis Zoo, Saint Louis Art Museum, Saint Louis Science Center and Missouri History Museum) and The Hill (a popular neighborhood known for its Italian eateries) are each approximately 5.5 miles away. The Delmar Loop (named one of the "10 great streets in America" and home to the Chuck Berry statue and St. Louis Walk of Fame), is approximately 6.5 miles west of the Arch.
Grant's Farm and the Ulysses S. Grant Historic site are each approximately 12.5 miles from downtown, while Six Flags amusement park is about a 35 mile drive.
There is much to see and do in St. Louis. Whether you walk, drive or use public transportation, you will likely need to make another visit to the "Gateway to the West" to see it all!
