Charnley-Persky House
1365 North Astor
Just north of Astor Court, at #1365, sits Charnley-Persky house. Completed in 1892, this National Historic Landmark was designed by Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright, while Wright was a junior draftsman at the architectural firm of Adler & Sullivan.
Charnley-Persky House is recognized as a seminal work of modern architecture. In its design, Sullivan and Wright rejected Victorian architectural norms in favor of abstract forms. The use of abstract forms is a hallmark of modern architecture.
Today the building is home to the Society of Architectural Historians. Unlike most other structures on this tour, you can actually get inside this building! The Society offers FREE guided tours of Charnley-Persky House every Wednesday and Saturday.
