Walk east on Washington to State Street. More than a century after the likes of Potter Palmer and Marshall Field built State Street into a major shopping thoroughfare, this famed street remains a vibrant shopping district.

On the northeast corner of State and Washington stands the Marshall Field & Co. building -- now Macy’s. Completed in 1893, the building was designed by famed architect and city planner Daniel Burnham for Marshall Field. Look for the Great Clocks on the corners of the building at Washington Street and Randolph Street. The clocks are iconic Chicago landmarks.

To fully appreciate this building's stately elegance, you’ll need to walk inside. Named to the National Register of Historic Places, the building's multi-story interior atriums include Corinthian columns, skylights, and the world's largest Tiffany vaulted ceiling.

On the opposite side of State Street, directly across from the Marshall Field's / Macy's building, stands Block 37 (at 108 N. State Street). Block 37 is a relatively new addition to State Street, with shopping, residential space, and offices. Step inside the shopping area for a multi-story mall featuring shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and a Hot-Tix location for discounted theater tickets.
